Nice to meet you!

Growing up, key issues that impacted and mattered most to my community were my inspiration to represent those who weren’t always able to have adequate representation in local media and government.

As I pursued my studies that would prepare me to serve as a voice for my community, my participation naturally grew in advocacy and volunteerism.  Throughout the years, my efforts and time has been dedicated in the appropriate organizations that work tirelessly for those causes that I care about, such as:  Hawai’i’s Filipino community, placemaking/urbanism, multimodes of transportation, anti human trafficking, civic engagement, volunteerism, youth empowerment, government transparency, and most importantly, my community.

My utmost passion and drive in life is to serve my community.  It is an honor to do so as a volunteers’ coordinator for multiple organizations, director on nonprofit organization boards, and an avid volunteer for causes I believe in, because, as Marian Wright Edelman said:

“I was taught that the world had a lot of problems; that I could struggle and change them; that intellectual and material gifts brought the privilege and responsibility of sharing with others less fortunate; and that service is the rent each of us pays for living, the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time or after you have reached your personal goals.”

I serve the City and County of Honolulu in the State of Hawaiʻi as a Chief of Staff.  Prior to that, I was an External Government Relations & Legislative Aide with the Honolulu City Council, a Legislative Aide with the Hawaiʻi State Legislature, and a nonprofit professional in Honolulu.

The opportunity to not just meet people, but really learn who they are, how they hope to see for their future and the future of Honolulu and the State of Hawai’i, and to play a small role in making their daily lives better is a reward in itself.  It gives me so much understanding of the issues and concerns the constituents local government serves, and reaffirms my commitment to my community as a public servant and their neighbor.

Another way I am able to bring a voice to those who may not always have a voice themselves is as a columnist (Metropolitan Millennial), contributing writer, and Assistant Editor for the Fil-Am Courier, Hawaiʻi’s leading Filipino publication as well as a Radio Technician for KNDI Radio 1270 AM.

Along with my Metropolitan Millennial column with the Courier, I also curate input on pertinent issues in our community from our community in the Community Pulse/Voices column which features the voices of my generation and the upcoming generations to provide a forum and dedicated space to express their views to share that they too have valuable opinions of the matters of the community and world.

I also provide contributing reports, features, and news pieces for various news media outlets in Hawai’i and internationally that helps to share with worldwide the news pertinent to Hawaiʻi, Filipinos and Filipino-Americans.

In November 2018, my team and I launched The Pilipinx Collective, a radio show on KNDI Radio 1270 AM and on Facebook and YouTube geared toward highlighting the next generations’ successes and life lessons and the Pilipinx identity through the millennial-persepctive.
